WHO WE ARE

Our Roots

Poetreef Summer Term is a registered 503(c) non-profit.  Poetreef Summer Term had its inaugural year 2018.  The idea for the camp originated from two of our youth advisors, Yanli Muhs and Ava Reinstein.  They noted during their travels that girls tended to receive less  resources from their schools, communities and families, and in many ways “got the short end of the stick”.  

Growing up in families of strong women, they were disappointed at the many missed opportunities, and the lack of appropriate role models and opportunities.  They wanted to try to make a positive difference.

Poetreef is a little piece of paradise on the sun kissed island of Jamaica.  Girls from around the world meet to learn, exchange ideas, break down stereotypes, have lots of fun and build a mentorship network to last a lifetime.
